Essay on What Started the Zombie Craze and What Kept Them...

12th Composition --11 ° 16 December, 2009 What started the zombie craze and what kept them â€Å"alive†? AHHHHhhhhhh........! Imagine being awakened by a soft, distance scream. Wide awake, the world returns to being silent except for a racing heartbeat. Suddenly, a soft resonating moan starts to fill the empty air of the bedroom. Looking out the window, the world is an eerie grey with nothing moving but the occasional garbage blowing in the wind. Suddenly the horizon begins to change as a crowd of people begin to emerge. Watching nervously, the figures get closer and turn into something much more menacing. They are all disease-invested, flesh-rotted, brain-hungry zombies! Where did these undead monsters come from? How do they survive? What†¦show more content†¦Night of the Living Dead gave the world its first zombie and since then the zombie has not stopped thirsting for human brains. Today, the new movie Zombieland has just been released into theaters so the zombie is still going strongly through culture. Ni ght of the Living Dead was a serious horror look at zombies but society has turned a once terrifying genre into some humor. Spoofs like ‘Shawn of the Dead’ and ‘Zombieland’ â€Å"has fun messing around with the rules of the post-apocalyptic zombie movie genre† (Machosky). However the reason the undead have survived so long is because they have broadened their publicity range. Not only does the world see zombies in movies, but mankind must â€Å"watch out for Nazi zombies rising from the grave in videos games like ‘Dead Snow’ and ‘Call of Duty: World at War’† (Greene). Zombies have been expanded into music as well with the Kingston Trio’s release of the song â€Å"Zombie Jamboree†. Even books have been used to spread the disease, such as â€Å"at Borders zombie literature runs the gambit from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to Zombie Haiku† (Greene). In addition, David Lubar has just recently expan ded the zombie craze to elementary school children with his newest novel, My Rotten Life (Lauer-Williams). This is a children’s book about a middle school student who is also a zombie. Zombies, once a scary menace only for the brave at heart, have become a friendlier topic for everyone. My Defining Values Essay Example For Students

My Defining Values Essay In life, everyone has different ambition and thinking. Even two people are twin, they still have differences. Therefore, each person has his/her own values. Furthermore, career and family also have influence on a person’s values. For instance, my father is a prosecutor, his values are safe, equality and respect. Whereas, education, individuality and punctuality are three values that define who I am. First of all, education is value that has a huge impact in my life. In my opinion, education makes the difference between people and animals because it teaches us knowledge and good characteristics, such as morality and bravery. Undoubtedly, I have first learnt the importance of education at school. When I was six, I went to primary school to study in the first level of our Vietnamese education system. Honestly, I was very afraid of class during my first week at school because of my strict teacher and strange friends. After that difficult time, I felt more interested in going to class in which I could learn the letters and words or how to connect the letters to create the sentences. Luckily, I knew how to read sooner than the rest of my class I could read stories about the lesson of life, such as friendship or filiat piety or solve the funny quizzes, which provided me with knowledge of science or history. Since I am a juvenile, sometimes I lose my control and make some mistakes. However, education helped me to fix my mistakes, makes me become better. Actually, my life would be boring and empty if I did not have education. In addition to education, individuality plays an important role in my life. Individuality means we do not depend on our parents or friends, we use our own creativity and thinking to gain the achievements. I realized the importance of individuality from my ninth grade math teacher. For each math exercise, she always incentivized us to find out other new and creative methods to solve problems beside the conventional way. It made my brain work harder but gave me a lot of confidence and excitement when studying math. The second source I learned about individuality was from American culture, which allows students to discuss and express their own opinions to their teachers. Moreover, American parents usually encourage their children to do everything by themselves and have the responsibility toward what they have done. This was contrary with Vietnamese culture, which forces young generation follow the conventional ways from our predecessors . When I study in America I feel that I am really an adult because everyone has respect for my opinion. Personally, I can say that individuality helped me grow up through the difficult trip I have pass. Beyond individuality and education, punctuality has a deep meaning to me as well. Basically, punctuality is being on time on a date or an appointment. The first source I learned about punctuality was from my friends in Vietnam. When I was in Vietnam, I felt very unhappy because my friends always went late in a party or camping and I have to wait more than half an hour. Therefore, I always try being time to make others feel happy when we have an appointment. The second source I learned about punctuality was a quotation ‘Time is money , which partly helped me know the extremely important value of time. To me, if someone spends their time for me, I will show my polite and appreciation by being on time because I do not want to waste their money. Finally, punctuality is one of the most important values to me, I believe that it will help me be successful. I recognize that these three values help me a lot in my life. Education provides me knowledge to pursue my dream to be an accountant. Individuality helps me overcome the obstacles I encounter in my life confidently. In addition to two values above, punctuality teaches me the preciousness of time and trains me to be a polite person. In the future, I try improving my three values because make them better also make my life better.
